Amplified inequalities has brought alarming rise of child poverty in the UK. More than 4 million children in the UK are growing up in poverty, a number that has been rising over the last decade and is forecast to grow even further. Failure to disrupt and reverse this trend will have profound impacts on individual life chances and exacerbate structural racialised inequalities.

As LondonChallengePovertyWeek begins, we were delighted to be part of the 4in10 – London’s Child Poverty Network delegation that met the Deputy Mayor of London Debbie Weekes-Bernard at City Hall to discuss the needs of families battling poverty in London.

Discussions included, the National Child Poverty Strategy and how child poverty can be addressed through the London Partnership Board’s missions, as well as the Household Support Fund, Migrant and refugee children’s experiences of poverty and the impact of poverty on children & young people’s (and parents) in Debt and experiencing mental health issues. povertyfreelondon
