This week Impact on Urban Health and Clear Consultancy Services launched a new report: ‘Supporting Households in Energy Debt: The role of debt advice, the energy sector, and government’

They found that Energy is the fastest growing type of debt presenting at debt advice services in GB, but accessing help from suppliers is often difficult and fruitless. Also 39% of the UK population either need debt advice or are at risk.

We were pleased to contribute to the report and have our case study featured.

Our CEO Muna Yassin MBE’s statement:

“We welcome this report and as a community-embedded debt advice Charity, the clients we support are often in extremely vulnerable situations. Providing support when people are in crisis can be challenging, and at times traumatic for them, without the added complexity of trying to engage with energy companies.

Our specialist advice team are pushed from pillar to post in trying to resolve client arrears – often calls can take hours and still there can be no positive outcome, so you can imagine how difficult it is for clients to navigate on their own.

We need to see better engagement with the sector, improved duty of care for customers facing financial difficulty, and commitment from the energy sector to fund services that are at the frontline in helping their customers become more financially resilient”
